Beauty Around the World

As with so many other aspects of culture, what’s considered “beautiful” and “desirable” in one country is vastly different in another. There is one universal aspect that seems to bypass all geographic and cultural lines–the pressures that continue to push people to strive for sometimes completely unrealistic standards.

In a recent project, “Perceptions of Perfection,” UK online pharmacy Superdrug Online Doctors asked designers around the world to alter an untouched photo to fit his or her respective country’s standard of beauty.

“Widely held perceptions of beauty and perfection can have a deep and lasting cultural impact on both women and men,” a Superdrug press release reads. “The goal of this project is to better understand potentially unrealistic standards of beauty and to see how such pressures vary around the world.”
