Freak Accident at Lake Peigneur

On November 20th, 1980, a freak accident made the 10 ft. deep freshwater Lake Peigneur in Louisiana turn into a violent, swirling whirlpool. When all was said and done, this tiny body of water had grown large enough to demolish over 65 acres of land, an entire oil rig, boat barges, and large amounts of the surrounding wildlife.

Since the accident, Lake Peigneur has been transformed into a much deeper body of water, now filled with saltwater, and with a permanently altered ecosystem. So how could such a small Lake cause so much destruction? Check out the video to get the whole story.
