No, you still can’t text and drive, but with a new innovation from Australian firm Buro North, texting and crossing the street became a little bit easier for all those tech-obsessed.

According to healthline.com, “A separate study from Stony Brook University showed that when people used their cell phones while walking, they were 61 percent more likely to veer off course, and 13 percent more likely to overshoot their target than when they were not distracted.”

In an attempt to curb accidents with pedestrians, Buro North developed “smart pavement” to be used at thousands of crosswalks all across the country. The new pavement uses strips of red or green lights to alert texters and talkers when it’s safe to walk and when  they need to hold their horses. Think it’ll work?
