Donald Trump recently asked the world, “Maybe we should boycott Starbuck’s. I don’t know,” in a speech in Springfield, Illinois.

He also quipped, “Seriously. I don’t care.”

He may not, but plenty of other people do. There’s a rage going on against Starbuck’s claiming they are bowing to the age of political correctness by changing their seasonal coffee cups this year. Yep, just go into one and you’ll notice the difference immediately – they took the Christ off of their brand-new cups by removing Merry Christmas. Now they are just painted red.

Even though the original avatar is a 16th century Norse woodcut of a twin-tailed mermaid, or Siren, Starbuck’s stresses they have told a story of the holidays by featuring symbols of the season from vintage ornaments and hand-drawn reindeer to modern vector-illustrated characters since 1997. And there’s never been a nativity-scene-decorated cup.

But those boring seasonal cups are not just being thrown away by all of us with a snicker, or a sneer. A young artist from Ohio is converting them into some stunning works of art. Carrah Aldridge collects her sans-Christmas cups and adds her own colorful designs and patterns using sharpies, white gel pens, and copic markers to add her own customization.

In case you missed what all the fuss is about, CUFBI would like to expose you to two other artists we’ve seen who created cup art; like San Francisco-based Miguel Cardona’s coffee-cup illustrations, and Malaysian-born Cheeming Boey’s sketches done with sharpie’s on styrofoam cups.

  1. This is so cool. Starbucks should hire some of these artists to do some of their store cups
