The Titanic is Back!

More than 100 years after the tragic crash and sinking of the Titanic ship in 1912, Australian billionaire Clive Palmer has decided to bring it back to life.

Teaming up with the shipping company Blue Star Line, the pair has undergone a project to re-make a nearly exact replica of the nine-floor, 840-cabin vessel, aptly calling it “Titanic II“.

While this new Titanic will look exactly like the first visually, it will be built to accommodate modern safety standards and technological advances.

A Modern Take on History

“The new Titanic will of course have modern evacuation procedures, satellite controls, digital navigation and radar systems and all those things you’d expect on a 21st century ship,” Blue Star Line global marketing director James McDonald told the Belfast Telegraph.

Once the project is complete, the ship’s maiden voyage is scheduled to depart from Jiangsu, China, for Dubai and will be carry 2,400 passengers and 900 crew members.

Just as on the original, there will also be three tiers of tickets available; first-, second- and third-class. Blue Star Line has reported offers as high as $928,76 for a chance to sail on the ship, according to one article.

While the production of Titanic II was originally scheduled to be completed sometime this year, it has now been extended to sometime in 2018.
