This 95 year old man is probably in better shape than you. He recently set a world record in the 200-meter run–yes, RUNNING–in the British Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships. In an incredible feat of determination, Charles Eugster’s final time for the run was 55.48 seconds; a full two seconds faster than the previous 2013 world record.

Eugster is ecstatic about this most recent accomplishment and wants to encourage people to re-think what they believe about aging and fitness. In this article from runnersworld.com, Eugster said in an interview, “People have been brainwashed to think that after you’re 65, you’re finished. We’re told that old age is a continuous state of decline, and that we should stop working, slow down and prepare to die. I disagree.”

After living a “mostly sedentary” lifestyle for much of his life, Eugster had taken up rowing in his 60s and done well–very well. He ended up going on to win 36 World Masters gold medals. Inspired by his success with rowing, he took up running merely one year before breaking the 200-meter record and has no plans of slowing down anytime soon.
