Red With Rage?

For most people, getting upset can lead to clenched fists, shaking and of course, the classic reddening of the face. And while the visions you see in cartoons of the blood-red, steam-coming-out-of-the-ears characters are a little on the extreme side, red cheeks are a very real occurrence.

The noticeable rosy complexion can happen when you’re angry, nervous, embarrassed or any other sort of “stress” emotion, thanks to your sympathetic nervous system. It allows your body’s blood vessels to open more in preparation for a “fight or flight” response.

And while humans have outgrown the evolutionary need for the red facial color, there isn’t a whole lot you can do to change this biological reaction. Sorry, blushers! It isn’t all bad though–learn more in the short video below.
